Description

Alfred Heaton Cooper is seen here mastering a sense of scale in a modestly sized painting from this remote valley setting, as the distant silhouette of Rossett Pike and its eponymous ghyll seem towering above Mickleden, in contrast to the pig’s hut in the middle ground.

For those that know the area of course, this entire scene lives in the shadow of Bowfell as the sun passes through the day’s arc, the summit of which another 800 feet superior, with its flanks visible in the lower left of the frame.
